Independence Day

Happy (belated) 4th of July!

Is anyone else weirded out that we're back at work already?  I do not like this.  Only 14 more work hours to the weekend, and I am counting down the minutes!

How was everyone's holiday?

Brad and I spent the day with family.  The weather was gorgeous, and the food was plentiful.

My parents' house is just up the hill from Ruston Way (the Tacoma Waterfront), and from the deck, you can see all the festivities!

In the early afternoon, the city puts on an airshow. A number of planes, old and new, fly overhead, performing stunts.
that's a plane. not a bug.

After the airshow was over, Brad, Brad's family, my sister and her boyfriend, and I walked down the hill to check out Tacoma's Freedom Fair.  The Freedom Fair is where all of Tacoma's population gathers on the 4th.  If you're into people watching, it is quite the show.  (aka way too many young women/girls wearing crop tops...all of whom should not have been wearing crop tops, if you know what I mean.)

The Freedom Fair has TONS of food and booths set up.  They had a rock climbing wall this year, and there were some people doing pole vaulting... I'm not really sure why, but it looked cool.

We wandered around among the booths for a while, but I was wearing cheap sandals, so we didn't stay too long.

After getting back to the house, we still had several hours to wait until the fireworks started.  So we just hung out on the deck and ate until it got dark.

All in all, it was a pretty good way to spend the holiday.  I'm pretty sure I gained 10 pounds from all the homemade cookies I ate.

I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday just as much!

  3. I think this was one of the best Fourths ever. The food was so good. And we burned off some of the calories from walking up the hill.
